Helpful Workshop
Today's print workshop was helpful as I was able to talk through the booklet and discuss technical issues when taking this to the dungeon (print).
As the booklet folds so many times into the pocket size, this requires the paper stock to be quite thin. I need to be careful as this will be duplex printed and don't want to have a huge percentage of ink applied to the paper.

Crit Feedback
The crit session was, ok. It was difficult showing work to members of the group who didn't have much understanding of my projects. I know the work should speak for itself and bringing the appropriate material along to the crits is crucial. I feel the feedback I received didn't help much in the direction the projects were heading and found myself stuck even more. BIG BUT, I also think I should carry on with what I want to produce for my portfolio.
Get This
I am going to attempt to mock up a real skate deck, but found it difficult to decide which one to mock up. I came across a small fold-out book for 'Size?' where it displayed new clothing and shoes. I thought this could be a great way to show all of the potential series of skate decks, as well as a product that the works can use to advertise their products at the shop provided at the skatepark complex.
I wanted to keep this simple and easy to produce. This will show a brief description of the skatepark/ complex along with contact details such as, location and general contact information. This side would also show a photograph which could be changed regularly or displaying new/different sections of the park.
The reverse would display the designed decks.
I thought of how the images could be displayed on one side of the hand out. However I preferred it being simplistic.
I didn't want to just put these on and be that boring about it so I made them bleed of the page, this gave quit e a good effect.
Stick To The Plan
After reading my crit feedback, it seemed that the other members of the group were not sure what I was producing? So before loosing my soul, I wrote down every possible outcome I was aiming to produce.

Tag, Your It
Tags which are pinned to the label of the shirt.
The type and logo would be in a coated colour and could be applied in a range different colours.
Mock-Up
The initial idear for the posters was to screen print them, but when I went to the print department and found out what was the best method, the type on the posters would be hard to screen-print. So Plan B came into action and decided to produce a range of different t-shirts displaying 3 different images of the boat. I then thought I could put my own branding name onto the t-shirts, I took this idea to the crit and was one of my questions I presented to the group.
"Should I apply my own branding label to the design?'
'no' ... but I want to so... I am.

One batch of the t-shirts was designed to show what colours are in the boat and wanted to bring in a different element of print which is, to screen print a plain image of the boat and then with fabric spray paint, spray over the image in blue and beige. (the colour of the sofas)

The Pen Tool is Back
Yes I know, you have gone vector again.. but i'm doing what I like doing best remember.
So I vectored the shapes from the photographs I took when at my visit to the skatepark.
Also creating shapes and modifying the contact details. This was made into a dial shape which turned developed back to the kogg idea for the logo.
Constantly tweaking the colours and positioning of the details bought new ideas and kept my kogg flowing.
Think I went off on one at one point and started making patterns with the logo.

Faff.
I didn't want to over complicate the headed paper and compliment slip, came up with a basic layout and faffed around with with the character settings until I could faff no more!
All Hands On Deck
With the photographs I live traced these where and was able to put these over a plain deck. The photographs worked well without tracing them.
I didn't go mad with detail because this was'nt necessary, however I could quickly mock-up some simple alternatives just to show this could be achieved.
Brief Visit
I contacted the owner of the works and arranged to go down and introduce my brief. I was able to ask questions about events and what could be produced in terms of merchandise. I was able to take some photos of the skatepark when it was empty.
The place already had quite a strong image and said they didn't want to change any of this too much.
Small ideas kept cropping up and I just decided to go with them, one of them was I noticed ramp stickers which could be easy to produce and quite effective. Weather it tape could be made or individual stickers, they could be designed in such a way that when combines work well together or on their own.
