I took this into Illustrator and started to trace the excising type also modifying parts of each letter.

It worked out that some letters linked when carefully positioning them.

Once i had some kind of rough, I could then think about thickness of strokes and colour.

Resizing strokes always causes problems so expanding the illustrations helped keep that stroke the balance with the stroke and the fill.

I found points were not 'behaving' but this was easy to fix.

Once I created one thicker illustration than the original, this could then be positioned on top of the other.

Applying different colours created different effects.
